ABOUT LAURA
Hi I’m Laura the founder of Live Well. I am an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach qualified through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, currently based in Mount Maunganui, NZ but also work with people online. I have been working on and off in the health industry for 9 years as Occupational Therapist in a variety of settings both in NZ and England. Throughout my time, I have become increasingly aware of the urgent need for an mindset shift within the “healthcare” realm and for a focus on a preventative, proactive approach to chronic disease and obesity prevention and a more holistic view of injury recovery.
Guided by Te Whare Tapa Wha, a holistic view on health and the person, ensuring all pillars are considered, is what has guided my practice over the years and overflows into how I approach my coaching. When we draw our attention to the areas of life and foundations of wellbeing that may be lacking, we are able to get to the bottom of our issue a lot quicker.
I feel so lucky to be sharing the beauty of proactive and preventative health with you, with the ultimate goal of achieving happier, healthier, more intuitive and connected humans.
My appreciation and interest for holistic health and wellness came about via my own personal struggles and desire for growth within myself. Without realising it, I had spent many years struggling with the physical side effects of overeating sugar and processed foods of low nutritional value, exercising incorrectly for my body and hormones to thrive, creating unnecessary mental stress through high expectations of self and others, traumatic relationships, and a lack of self-love and esteem which led me to the journey of healing the repercussions: adrenal fatigue, candida, brain fog, joint pain, consistently high cortisol levels, falling asleep at work, lack of insight into when and how to slow down, bloating, hormonal and blood sugar roller coasters, PMS, liver and insulin resistance issues. The list goes on!
Dedicating the time and commitment to learn about my body and my bio-individual needs, I reached out for support, worked with some amazing Naturopaths and educated myself on the big wide world of healthy living through my study with IIN and from here, Live Well was born. I was fortunate enough to work overseas in the super yachting industry which provided me with the thinking space to take a deep breath and assess what health and my future meant to me. This also led me to complete my 200hr Vinyasa Krama Yoga Instructor’s course where I learned how to tune into my own self, and learn a lot about who I was by working through negative roadblocks.
I believe all healing is a journey, we have times in our life where certain pillars of our Hauora, or wellbeing become out of balance which can lead to us feeling lost if we let it. Having an external person to provide you with support and guidance to navigate your wellness journey and all the fads out there, can be an integral part of creating a more balanced, sustainable, and healthier life.
Laura’s special interests are:
Gut health and hormonal health
Cortisol and nervous system regulation
Chronic disease prevention
Cycle awareness and supporting and understanding the menstrual cycle
Whole foods recipes, nutritional support, and packaged food label education
Stress, sleep and lifestyle management
Exploring underlying stressors or imbalances that may be manifesting physically, emotionally. or mentally, inhibiting quality of life or motivation
Sensory processing and preferences and how these impact how we each engage with the world
Why work with me? My values and promises to you.
I don’t work out of scope, so I will always endeavour to recommend the right practitioner for you, if it isn’t myself.
I will always guide you to find your own answers to what you know needs to change deep down, and guide you through this process, not “solving” your problems.
Transformation and change is only possible when goals are sustainable, so I always get into the nitty gritty of your likes, dislikes, current situation and life’s realities when it comes to life and dietary changes.
I won’t tell you what to do or what you should be doing. Everyone is their own person and has their own bio-individual needs so we work together when putting together a plan.
What makes working with a coach, different to a family member or friend?
We serve as a mirror, an objective party looking in with no bias, judgments or expectations. We hold a beginners mind for you, explore resistance and roadblocks with you and create more self-awareness to allow for transformation.
We can provide a scared space to support you to do your inner work while providing advise and and guidence along the way.
